I Once Fled My Family's Tea Mountains, Only to Find My Calling in a Scottish Afternoon Cup

I was born into a tea family in Yunnan, where my father dedicated over four decades to the art of tea. Yet my own journey took a detour when I moved to Australia for my studies. There, I lived with a graceful Scottish hostess, and our daily four o’clock tea ritual in the garden became my first true understanding of tea—not as a profession, but as a moment of warmth and presence in everyday life.

At the time, I had no intention of entering the tea world. I pursued a master’s in business, became a teacher, and built a life far from the tea mountains. But when my family’s tea business faced closure, I returned home and stepped into a role I never expected.

Starting from scratch, I learned from the masters—traveling deep into Yunnan’s tea regions and immersing myself in the craft. Yet my path was not without struggle. There were times I was hospitalized due to blindly over-tasting teas. It was a wake-up call: tea, as a force of nature, can harm us when not understood and respected. That experience became a turning point—shifting my focus from technique alone to the wisdom of how tea and the human body can coexist in harmony.

Today, with 16 years of experience, I not only manage our tea company but also serve as its chief tea blender. Drawing from my father’s legacy—including one of Yunnan’s oldest tea cellars—I specialize in Pu’er tea fermentation, storage, and blending, supported by hundreds of tons of tea reserves.

But my mission today goes beyond tea production. Through continued study of tea biochemistry and traditional Chinese medicine, I’m committed to sharing a balanced, personalized approach to tea—one that honors both science and tradition.

Now, I’m passionate about bringing this knowledge to tea lovers around the world. In my interactive workshops, you will not only taste exceptional teas but also learn: How to choose the right tea for your unique body type? How to brew a cup in your busy morning that energizes without straining your stomach?
